BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Here is the brief introduction to the Federation of the Vietnamese American Communities of the U.S.A. (FED-VAC-USA).
Formation:
- Following 30-4-1975 when the Vietnamese Communists from the North took over the South Vietnam, millions of Vietnamese left country because they could not live under inhuman and dictatorial regime of Vietnamese communists.
- At the resettlement countries, Vietnamese refugees have established communities everywhere, particularly in the United States. Starting on 19-6-1993 in Orlando, Florida, they formed officially the Vietnamese Community in the United States; later due to the situation and needs, the name has changed to the Federation of Vietnamese American Communities of the the United States.
- The Charter passed in Congress in 1993, was amended in 2006 in New York, 2009 in Dallas, TX, and 2012 in Houston, TX.
Purpose:
FED-VAC-USA is a non-profit organization operating under the laws of the United States for the purpose of:
- (1) Combine all efforts to develop and advance the lives of Vietnamese American living in the United States .
- (2) Protect and defend the legitimate rights of the Vietnamese Americans under U.S. law; present aspirations, needs and views on cultural, social, economic and political aspects of the Vietnamese ethnics.
- (3) To preserve and promote the traditional culture.
- (4) Support all efforts to seek for freedom, democracy and human rights in Vietnam.
Principles:
- Democracy is the rule for all activities; Law is a framework for all activities; Protection for the legitimate rights of the community; Unity is the need to empower the community,
- The local communities accepting charter FVAC-USA can participate (known as Community Members) are voluntary, remain as independent and local self-governing.
- FVAC-USA is a coordinating agency in the areas of cultural, social, economic, political, domestic and international.
Leadership of the 2012-2015 term:
Annual General Meeting of the nation wide Vietnamese Communities of the USA was held in the city of Houston, Texas, on the 12, 13 and 14 October 2012 with the presence or proxy of 32 Community Members. New Council of Representatives of 2012-2015 term, including the Board of Representatives, Board of Executives and the Board of Supervisors were elected as the following:

* Executive Board: President: Dr. Do Van Hoi (Florida
* Board of Supervisors: President: Prof. Pham Van Thanh (CA),
* Advisory Council: Dr. Truong Ngoc Tich (Founder, Former President of BOD), Mr. Nguyen Van Tanh (former President of BOD) and former President Tran Van Nhut.
Summary of activities for a term:
- Internal affairs: build a potential of organization, create unity, strengthen human leadership, especially the young generation.
- External affairs: contact and cooperate with other organizations, associations, religious in the community.
- Campaign with the U.S. Government and International Countries to implement the goals, especially for the freedom, democracy of Vietnam and Vietnam sovereignty on the South China Sea occupied by China.
- Encourage young people to participate in the political environment of the United States at all levels. Promote Vietnamese American for voter registration and election.
- Develop communication (TV, Radio, internet…).
- Help developing the living standard for Vietnamese Americans such as Health, law, career, the rights and responsibility of citizens in the United States ..
- Seek for financial means for the activities of the organization.
